Don't know about durability yet but this works really well. Battery charges and lasts far longer than instructions state. Maybe five to ten seconds of cranking & the light and radio lasted through our nearly 2 hour power outage and was still going. Still had power when I turned it on a couple of weeks later. Lights are really strong and reception and sound quality on the radio are amazing. My expensive hand crank radio that hadn't been used for 10 years or more, because we don't get many power outages, broke when I tried to crank it up, so I got this and a smaller one to have available the next time I need them. My only concern is they say to use them once a month, but I want to be able to just put it away and forget about it until I need it, which could be years. I'm not sure what that will do to the battery.

After losing power one night and hearing storms in the distance, I decided it was time to have a battery operated radio. Read all the reviews about the product; bought one. Right out of the box, it came charged. I tried all the functions, they worked fine. NOAA station comes in clear along with fm stations. One disappointment is how to charge it, directions are clear but I would have thought it came with a plug end. Although I probably will be lazy with charging and just use batteries along with crank and solar. This is exactly what I wanted and would recommend you buy one to for the unexpected. Oh did I mention my phone was only 19% charged when power went out..duh.

I purchased this radio for power outages. One reason I decided on this particular radio was because of the various ways to charge it. Hand crank... Works great, rechargeable... It is...and it also uses regular batteries. Can also be used as a power bank for cell phones etc. As an extra... You can also use it to play music from an sd card! I have no problems with getting radio stations either. Did I mention it also charges by solar? It does!! I am very happy with my new radio!

For its size it sounds great! Everything works out of the box. Flashlight is bright. Reading panel supplies enough light to read by or to work hands free on a project in an emergency. Solar cells provide plenty of power to recharge the battery. Like another reviewer said I don't think it will survive a lot of rough handling. I was extremely surprised by how clear the NOAA channels sound. FM is great, AM not so much. A serious SW buff will be disappointed; you need digital tuning to really zero in on certain frequencies, but for the price I can highly recommend this radio. Buy it!

Install Flash Player Quite pleased! Has a lot of features and at a great price. I like the fact that it has a rechargeable battery that you can charge from a micro USB port, the crank works, so does the solar, and a real plus is being able to run it on AA batteries. The radio works on all bands. Sounds good! The sound is not as good as a Bose, but quite nice. I haven't tried the Micro SD card yet for added music. Again, a really nice extra feature for this price point. Other features: The main flashlight is bright. The secondary light does a nice job for reading. There are times in an emergency or camping where you actually want to read something. It has a pretty loud siren sound. Finally, it can charge your phone and other devices that use USB. You know, if it had blonde hair I might ask it to marry me:)

Although I haven't actually used it extensively or in an emergency situation, I can definitely speak well of it - it was fine after being in the below-freezing temperatures for hours on my doorstep, and all the advertised functions seem to work very nicely. It came pre-charged, so I couldn't test how much radio or light time you get for each minute of cranking the dynamo, but it seemed to do well when I tried removing the lithium ion battery and cranking.

One of the most important suggestions I make in my preparedness guide, "What to Do til the Cavalry Comes: A Family Guide to Preparedness in 21st Century America, is a radio! This one meets all the criteria and then some! Multi-powered, multi-bands, LED lights and NOAA weather! I'm updating my preparedness kit for hurricane season and this radio is in my personal prep pack. Just had a test run with STS Alberto blowing thru and I got to use this multi-feature tool over Memorial Day weekend. Reception on AM-FM is as good as anything else, it's terrestrial radio. NOAA band picked up the transmitter for my locale and again, reception was good, audio crystal clear. LED flashlight and reading light are adequate. It charged off my lap via USB and the charge light is on when the solar cell picks up enough light (like by a window). The charging handle cranks easy and does it's job. I would recommend this unit to anyone needing a way to stay informed during a disaster.

I wasn't expecting to love this little radio so much - considering the price - but I do. In light of the mudslides that have devastated our local area here in CA, I have been motivated to finish my emergency kit. The radio is the perfect size. While I have not used the solar component, I did try out the crank and all the features (radio, light, lantern, and siren.) I ordered a second one to be sent to my 80+ year old aunt, and she is also impressed. It is easy for her to operate and the radio reception is clear.

Nice radio!! The sound is amazing very good tone quality, Reception on all bands is good, For the shortwave listeners out there, sensitivity is good. I would use a clip on Antenna when necessary, I believe this radio has step tuning, Which means you tune the radio signals slowly. It’s not like traditional analog tuning. The lamp light and flashlight works great. Over all a amazing radio for the price.

I can't believe how many features this radio has...from the flashlight and reading lamp to the several ways of charging. I wanted a radio that used batteries because I've had crank radios in the past and never got much power out of them. Solar charging is definitely a bonus. The sound so far is great and it picks up lots of stations on both FM and AM bands plus I received very clear reception on my local NOAA broadcast (although I didn't like what they were telling me since it was more snow - ugh). The size of the 2 dials is great and beneficial when you have arthritic hands like I do. I love the red color and the portability. I plan to use this radio when camping in my minivan or when just hanging out on my patio.
